Policies and Fees

Online Therapy

I see adults (18+) for online individual therapy and group therapy who live throughout California, where I hold a license to practice psychology. Teletherapy sessions take place on a HIPAA compliant platform. All paperwork and payment information for our online therapy is completed electronically through HIPAA compliant software.

Fees

My rates are based on the type and length of services provided. These rates are consistent with other doctoral level licensed clinical psychologists in the Bay Area with similar experience. I offer sliding scale options based on my current availability. Please contact me for current fee information.

Payments are by debit, credit, HSA or FSA card. The first time we meet, you’ll be sent a link where you can securely fill in your billing information. For each subsequent session, you’ll be billed automatically.

Insurance

I am an out-of-network provider for health insurance plans. Depending on your insurance company, you may be eligible for reimbursement. Upon request, I can provide a receipt of services, known as a “superbill,” to submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Consider asking your insurance company about the following information:

  • Allowable amount for the service (Individual or group therapy) provided by a doctoral level clinical psychologist in zip code 94704

    • Some companies call this their “usual and customary rate”

  • Percent of allowable amount they will reimburse

  • Your out-of-network deductible or coinsurance

  • How much you have left before you reach your deductible

Cancellations or Missed Appointments

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please do so as soon as possible via phone or email. If you miss your appointment or cancel within 48 hours of the appointment time, you will be charged the full session rate. In exceptional circumstances, this fee may be waived.

Communication

I am often not immediately available by telephone. I do not answer my phone when I am with clients or otherwise unavailable. At these times, you may leave a message on my voicemail and your call will be returned as soon as possible. I will make every effort to return your call within 48-72 business hours. I will make every attempt to inform you in advance of planned and/or extended absences. You may email general inquiries to my HIPPA compliant email at info@drmelissalondon.com. Text messaging is not a secure or confidential method of communication and can be intercepted by unauthorized persons. I will not discuss clinical information by text and prefer that you do not use text except to schedule or cancel an appointment.

Good Faith Estimate

Under the “No Surprises Act” from January 2022, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are
not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

If you are uninsured or not using insurance, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services.

Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call CMS at 1-800-985-3059.
